Driving Directions
Fort Pierce Inlet State Park is located four
miles east of Fort Pierce, via North Causeway.
Hours of Operation
Florida state parks are open from 8 a.m. until
sundown 365 days a year.
Located on the north shore of Fort Pierce Inlet,
this 340-acre park of Atlantic beach, dunes
and coastal hammock provides hours of fun. Adjacent
Jack Island on the Intracoastal Waterway is
a bird watcher's paradise.
Plantlife
At the park, swimmers and surfers on their way
to the beach cross through a community of beach
grasses, sea oats and creeping vines. Please
walk only on the boardwalks. They protect feet
from sandspurs, stinging nettles, prickly pear
cactus and also protect the plants that anchor
the dunes from being trampled. Behind the dunes
lie maritime hammocks (seaside hardwood forests),
which are rapidly disappearing outside the park
because of demand for land development. A 20-minute,
self-guided trail leads through a hammock of
wind-pruned live oaks, cabbage palms, sea grapes
and strangler figs.
