Hours of Operation
Florida state parks are open from 8 a.m. until sundown
365 days a year.
Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in Florida
State Parks. Please place all trash in its proper
place and do not feed the wildlife.
The lake offers outstanding recreational opportunities
for largemouth bass, shellcracker and speckled perch
sport fishing, nature walks, picnicking and boating.
Lake Talquin is a man-made lake. Because the lake
is inundated with logs and stumps, no swimming is
permitted.
The rolling hills of the uplands are covered with
forests of pines and hardwoods. Large loblolly pines,
American beeches, Southern magnolias and oaks dominate
these woods. In the spring, flowering dogwood, rebud
and red buckeye are all in bloom in the forest understory
and add soft colors to the fresh green of the newly
opening forest leaves.
There is an amazing abundance of wildlife throughout
the are. Numerous waterfowl use the lake during the
winter, and bald eagles and osprey are often seen
flying over the lake or resting in trees along the
shore. On the upper reaches of the lake, the strange
nocturnal call of limpkins echo among the cypress
trees. Animals such as wild turkey and deer are seen
frequently.
Fishing
Renowned for its sports fishing, Lake Talquin contains
largemouth bass, speckled perch, bluegill, shellcracker
and catfish. A Florida freshwater fishing license
is required for persons over 15 years of age or older.
A small fishing dock is located at the River Bluff
area to allow fishing without a boat.
Nature Trails
The self-guided boardwalk at the River Bluff Picnic
Site offers views of the ravine, bluffs and lakeshore.
A loop trail takes visitors through two of the ravines
at the site. This 45-mintue walk allows visitors a
closer inspection of the fascinating plant and animal
life of the park year-round.
Picnicking
Excellent picnic facilities, including a pavilion
and barbeque pit are available at the River Bluff
Picnic Site. The facilities may be reserved for group
activities and after-hour use by contacting the park
office.
