Hours of Operation
The Ybor City Museum State Park is open daily
from 9 am - 5 pm. We are closed Christmas day
and Thanksgiving day.
Don Vicente Martinez Ybor, an influential cigar
manufacturer and Cuban immigrant, came to a sandy,
palmetto-covered frontier and turned it into a
city for thousands of immigrants. These newcomers
brought their skills and their culture, making
Ybor City unique in Florida and the "Cigar
Capital of the World."
Museum
Open year-round with the exception
of major holidays. -- 9 AM-5 PM
Tour through the Ybor City Museum State Park
(housed in the historic Ferlita Bakery) and explore
the history and founding of Ybor City. Through
interactive exhibits, learn about Tampa's cigar
industry (known as "the cigar capital of
the world"), cultures and lifestyles of the
early founders. The Ferlita Bakery, established
in 1923, was a major source of the community's
daily bread. Museum fee: $2 per person. Call the
park for more details.
La Casita Tours
Open year-round with the exception of major holidays.
11 AM - 3 PM on the hour
Docents lead guided tours through La Casita,
a cigar maker's house. The house is an excellent
example of the "shot-gun" houses in
which many cigar makers lived. It also reflects
the family life in the early part of the 20th
century. Fee: included in the museum fee of $2
per person.
Cigar Heritage Festival
Nov. 2
9 AM-5 PM
This sixth annual event celebrates the importance
of cigar manufacturing in Ybor City. Produced
by Clear Channel Broadcasting of Tampa Bay, it
serves as a fundraiser for the Ybor City Museum
Society. It includes ethnic foods and entertainment
and family activities. Entry fee for museum $2
per person All ages are welcome (age six and under
free).
